Melted Smurf

The paint of my Smurf in Cage supersmurf somehow melted a bit in storage. Though he looks fine from a foot back, he's sticky to the touch. It's not a big deal (he looks OK), but it irritates me (he was a childhood favorite). My 1960s "smurf with dumb-bell" (original Hefty?) is also a bit sticky.
Any ideas? I guess this question should go to smurf surgery, even if the question is more dermatology in nature. Feel free to respond privately, even. My smurf cage is already missing one bar and missing the top peg for the door--my intention isn't to re-sell.
